Freeware alternatives to Microsoft Office (Libre Office)
In addition to Open Office and IBM Lotus Symphony, Libre Office is announced as being a new distribution designed as an open source alternative to Microsoft Office.
Libre Office enjoys a high support and seems to be a practical market concurrent of office suites.
As The Document Foundation describes themself: “Our mission is to facilitate the evolution of the OpenOffice.org community in a new organizational structure open and meritocratic independence in the next few months”, it appeared after the takeover of Sun by Oracle and is actually an independent branch, trying further to develop the Open Office platform.
The Document Foundation is sustained by people that already have experience of over 10 years in the Open Office community.
Regardless of the opinions, one good thing is that users now have a free office suite and a new alternative to Microsoft Office.
