Change the IP address in Windows 7 or Vista
If you want to change IP in Windows 7 you have to follow these steps:
1. Go to Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Go to View Network Status and Tasks
4. From the list on the left choose Change Adapter Settings
5. Right-click on Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties
6. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) (depending on your IP address type)
Setup a dynamic IP in Windows 7 or Vista
To set up a dynamic IP you have to select these options (see the example image below):
– Obtain an IP address automatically
– Obtain DNS server address automatically
Then press OK and wait for the PC to automatically update the IP address.
Setup a static IP in Windows 7 or Vista
To set up a static IP, you need to know the IP address, Netmask, Gateway and DNS. These data are provided by your network administrator or internet provider. If you configure a local network these data varies depending on your network configuration and / or router settings.
To set up a static IP you have to follow these steps (see example below):
– Select Use the Following IP address option and enter the computer IP, Netmask and Gateway
– Select the option Use the Following DNS server addresses and enter one or two DNS addresses
