This documentation page refers to Analytics Insights for WP plugin.
For other FAQ, tutorials, and helpful resources see the documentation index.
The access code is one of the most important things for Analytics Insights. It is used to authorize the plugin and will provide useful information about the Property you will use for tracking. Using this information, the plugin can properly setup and fine-tune your tracking code and reports.
Please note that we are not collecting any kind of data about your Google Analytics account, for details see the data usage policy.
Issues while generating the access code
There are multiple reasons for not being able to properly generate an access code:
- plugin conflicts
- issues generated by browser extensions like Ad Blockers and Privacy extensions
- browser issues
- cookie issues
- web privacy components of certain antivirus programs
- operating system issues
A quick fix for browser related issues
First thing first, make sure that you’re not using an Ad Blocker or a Privacy extension during the authorization and configuration of the plugin. These extensions are know to heavily disrupt the setup process.
The majority of browser-related problems have a quick and easy fix: authorize the plugin using an Incognito/Private window. Here’s how you can use this feature on various browsers:
- to open an incognito window in Google Chrome use CTRL+SHIFT+N.
- to open a private window in Mozilla Firefox use CTRL+SHIFT+P.
- for private browsing in Safari go to the Safari menu and select Private Browsing.
Please make sure that none of your extensions are allowed to run in the Private/Incognito mode. If you’re still experiencing the issue you should try using a different browser or a different device.
Fixing plugin conflicts
There are multiple causes that can generate these conflicts, among them are plugin developers who are not loading the libraries properly or other related bugs. If you find the plugin generating the conflict, it would be a good idea to contact the plugin author and let him know about it.
The simplest way to debug plugin conflicts is to:
- disable all other plugins, except for Analytics Insights.
- try to generate the access code.
- after successfully generating the access code and authorizing the plugin, re-enable all plugins.
Issues while authorizing the plugin
Here are a few of the most common causes and issues encountered during plugin authorization:
- lack of a properly configured Google Analytics account. Before authorization you need to create at least one Google Analytics account, a Property and a View on analytics.google.com.
- Errors generated by the reuse of the access code. Please note that the access code is for one time use. You will have to generate a new access code at every authorization attempt.
- Use of the tracking ID (UA-000000) instead of the access code. The tracking ID is unrelated to the access code.
- Errors generated by a wrong date and time in your server.
