At some point you may need to make changes to your Property or View settings in your Google Analytics account. For example, if you have previously used HTTP you may want to move to HTTPS. To do so, you’ll need to update your Property and View settings. Once updated, to make these changes available in Analytics Insights for WP you need to force a refresh as described below.
How to refresh the Property and View changes
On WordPress Networks (multisite mode), you can refresh the list and settings of your Properties and Views using the Refresh Properties button from General Settings screen of your network admin area.
For security reasons the auto-update of this list is disabled for single sites.
On single sites, after you’ve made changes to Views or Properties in your Google Analytics account, you’ll need to clear the authorization and re-authorize the plugin to update the list and settings of your Properties and Views:
- in your WordPress admin area select Analytics Insights and then General Settings.
- click on Clear Authorization.
- re-authorize the plugin using the Authorize Plugin button from General Settings screen.
By following these steps you will update the following:
- the Select View list from General Settings screen
- the Property and View details from General Settings and Tracking Code screen
- all other Property and View settings used by the plugin
The same procedure must be followed to sync Analytics Insights plugin with newly added Properties and Views in your Google Analytics account.
How to switch a Property or View from HTTP to HTTPS
After switching to HTTPS by installing a SSL certificate for your website, you will also need to update a few things in your Google Analytics account. Furthermore, the Analytics Insights plugin needs to be aware of these changes by forcing a Property and View settings refresh.
Here are the steps you need to follow after switching to HTTPS:
- go to analytics.google.com
- select Admin from the sidebar
- choose the right Account and the targeted Property
- select Property Settings
- switch the protocol for Default URL from http:// to https://
- click on Save
- choose the right View
- select View Settings
- switch the protocol for Website’s URL from http:// to https://
- click on Save
- follow the procedure described in the previous section to force a refresh of your Views and Properties settings in Analytics Insights
If you have multiple Properties and Views defined for the same website, you will need to update each one before forcing the refresh in Analytics Insights plugin.
How to update the domain name of a Property or View
After changing the domain name of your website, you may wish to use the old Properties and Views. To do so, you will need to update a few things in your Google Analytics account. Furthermore, the Analytics Insights plugin needs to be aware of these changes by forcing a Property and View settings refresh.
Here are the steps you need to follow after changing the domain name of your website:
- go to analytics.google.com
- select Admin from the sidebar
- choose the right Account and the targeted Property
- select Property Settings
- change the domain name in the Property Name and Default URL input fields
- click on Save
- choose the right View
- select View Settings
- change the domain name in the View Name and Website’s URL input fields
- click on Save
- follow the procedure described in the first section to force a refresh of your Views and Properties settings in Analytics Insights
If you have multiple Properties and Views defined for the same website, you will need to update each one before forcing the refresh in Analytics Insights.
